A little while ago, I wrote about how MTV was going to move forward with a Scream television series without it’s recognizable mask. I still believe htis is a horrible idea, as the series is best known for that mask. Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson took the horror genre to a whole new level with that franchise and removing its most iconic element seems like a horrible idea; but then again, this is MTV we’re talking about.

In stepping away from the mask that’s owned by FunWorld, the producers are going to go a darker route that pays homages to the original. The Vice President of MTV, Mina Lefevre, speaks about the change.

“It’s a darker, almost more grounded, evolved version of the mask. It’s something we’re constantly talking about. How did that mask become that mask? What’s its purpose? How did it evolve? If the Scream movie mask was the more plastic version, for a lack of a better description, this one is a more organic looking and frankly darker version.”
Artist, Edvard Munch, created a drawing of a much darker version of Ghostface and the mask is based around that.

I’m fine with darker, I’m not fine with someone taking away Freddy’s striped sweater, or Jason’s Hockey Mask. It makes no sense and it doesn’t “add” anything not to have it. You have the money MTV, pay up and get this fixed.
