We revealed last month, that Abu Dhabi would be the new home of Tatooine, in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII. DFAT is happy to announce that filming has finally begun on the new franchise, with director J. J. Abrams and crew taking to the new location. Here’s the ‘Day One’ slate for the start of production below.

A ‘shuttle-like’ craft as well as several jet-powered buggies have also been spotted in the area not to mention a ‘large tower’ and a ‘big, centuries-old-looking market’. Images obtained by Abu Dhabi’s The National show a giant marquee with crew members wheeling bits of set and props in and out ahead of the first day of production.

Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford have all returned to step back into their iconic roles as Luke, Leia, and Han; but Abrams has also added a ton of new cast members. As more news comes down for Episode VII, Stay Tuned to DFAT to keep you up to date!

Star Wars Episode VII is written by Lawrence Kasdan and is directed by J. J. Abrams. The film is due out December 18th, 2015 and will star: John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker.
