“I feel like I’ve been asleep at the wheel for far too long.”

Karen looked one last time at the note she was penning. It was a tentative look. She had been thinking about this for a long time and it was finally here. Carefully, she pulled the piece of paper out of her notebook and placed it on the table at the front of her apartment. The door closed with a sharp snap as she walked into the brisk January air.

Gunning for Hits #1 (Image)

Jeff Rougvie (W) Moritat (A)

Okay, I have to say, I’m basically in this because I love David Bowie. Now, this may just be a cheap cash grab, utilizing his likeness for a quick buck. Hopefully it isn’t.

Web of Venom: Unleashed #1 (Marvel)

Ryan Stegman (W) Kyle Hotz (A)

The Stegman is on the decks for the night. I mean, lets be real. We all wondered what it would be like if a dog got the powers of venom. Right?

Captain Marvel #1 (Marvel)

Kelly Thompson (W) Carmen Carnero (A)

Man, I cannot tell you how excited I am for this book. I have really been loving what Thompson has been doing recently. I’ll follow her off a cliff. I have little to no self control.

Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #1 (Marvel)

Tom Taylor (W) Juan Cabal (A)

Another Spider-Book! Tom Taylor’s name always seems abuzz with praise. I haven’t really experienced his work before, with the exception of his recent Batman annual, but that alone was enough to pique my interest for this book. Also, look at that cover, this book is going to be gorgeous.

Criminal #1 (Image)

Ed Brubaker (W) Sean Phillips (A)

I LOVE THIS TEAM. I just finished their Criminal Novella “My Heroes Have Always Been Junkies”, and fuck. I remembered why these two are such an unstoppable duo. Read this book.

Curse Words #19 (Image)

Charles Soule (W) Ryan Browne (A)

There is a chance that this may be my last arc on this book. It just hasn’t had that pull for me since the first arc, and I feel myself drifting more and more. This just turned into a breakup.

Man Without Fear #2 (Marvel)

Jed MacKay (W) Danilo Beyruth (A)

I have a confession. I didn’t tell you I was going to pick up the first issue of this book because I wanted you to branch out and make some decisions for yourself. You picked it up? I’m so proud of you.

Avengers #12 (Marvel)

Jason Aaron (W) Ed McGuinness (A)

The secret origin of the All-New Secret Avengers! They’ve been hinting at characters behind the veil helping the rag-tag Avengers for a while now. It’s time for the meet and greet.

Moth & Whisper #5 (Aftershock)

Ted Anderson (W) Jen Hickman (A)

I like this one because I like spies and stuff. Lazers are super dope and in the future I plan to ride a hover board to my best friends house.

Cemetery Beach #5 (Image)

Warren Ellis (W) Jason Howard (A)

This book is great but I get the feeling that it will translate better when it gets collected. It’s a quick, action packed read. I think that’s going to be a trend moving forward in this medium. Sometimes things just need to be graphic novels.

Euthanauts #5 (Black Crown)

Tini Howard (W) Nick Robles (A)

This book is adventurous. It has a strong voice and I know that after this book I will be watching these talents for a while.

Justice League #15 (DC)

James Tynion IV/Scott Snyder (W) Jim Cheung (A)

This book is fucking goofy. Like there will be an issue that makes my jaw drop, then an issue that seems more like a highlights reel than a linear plot. It’s fun, don’t mistake what I’m saying. It’s just different.

Patience! Conviction! Revenge! #5 (Aftershock)

Patrick Kindlon (W) Marco Ferrari (A)

I love this fucking book. I think each issue manages to pound the stake of love into my little voodoo heart. Please help me. It hurts.

Miles Morales: Spider-Man #2 (Marvel)

Saladin Ahmed (W) Javier Garron (A)

Issue one of this book had a solid pace and it was fun and all, but a majority of it was playing catch up for us, explaining Miles to us. It was necessary but I couldn’t get the best grip on the tone from the issue. Anyway, I look forward to this series.

The Punisher #6 (Marvel)

Matthew Rosenberg (W) Szymon Kudranski (A)

Well, if I were a villain fighting Frank Castle, I wouldn’t bring him into my home. Even if it was to torture him. Just saying.

Martian Manhunter #2 (DC)

Steve Orlando (W) Riley Rossmo (A)

Thor #9 (Marvel)

Jason Aaron (W) Michael Del Mundo (A)

An issue focusing on the much absent Roz Solomon. I know she’s been around in the issues recently, but she’s kinda taken a back seat. Good to have her back.

The Dreaming #5 (Vertigo)

Simon Spurrier (W) Bilquis Evely (A)

This book has gripped me from the first issue. It’s an amazing title that holds it’s own voice strong on the page and still feels like a natural evolution from the original Sandman series. It’s really god damn impressive.

Batman #62 (DC)

Tom King (W) Mitch Gerads (A)

The team behind Mister Miracle brings us a story about one of the weirdest characters in the Gotham rouges gallery. Mitch has been tweeting about this issue a lot recently and from what I can decipher, we’re in for something wild.

Oblivion Song #11 (Image)

Robert Kirkman (W) Lorenzo De Felici (A)

Well, shit went to hell fast. You think the world’s most hated person would be a little more careful about teleporting a square block into a demon dimension a second time.

The Wrong Earth #5 (Ahoy)

Tom Peyer (W) Jamal Igle (A)

This series has been a love letter to the complexity of comic book character development. Juxtaposing the grisled, gritty superhero and his happy go lucky counterpart from another universe. It’s fun, funny, and a massive commentary on the modern comic tropes. Read it.

The Green Lantern #3 (DC)

Grant Morrison (W) Liam Sharp (A)

Who would have thought that Grant Morrison would have one of the craziest superhero comic series in the last few years? I mean really? Who would have known?

Murder Falcon #4 (Image)

Daniel Warren Johnson (W/A)

Metal till I die. Thrash till I’m mash. Anyway, read this comic because you’re a good person and you want to read it because I told you to. Whatever.

Blackbird #4 (Image)

Sam Humphries (W) Jen Bartel (A)

Fucking Christ. I was not anticipating this book sweeping me off my feet and taking me from casual lover to impassioned romantic partner. This book is like the tender embrace of your closest love one.

Die #2 (Image)

Kieron Gillen (W) Stephanie Hans (A)

I love Jumanji and I love Dungeons and Dragons. You all know this. This book is unfair. It cornered me and sold me something I could not hate. Something I was forced to love. I love it begrudgingly. Give me time. Seriously, this book is phenomenal and shattered my already high hopes for what it could be. Read this series.

The fifteen hundred dollars sat plainly on the floor of her Toyota Yaris. She felt her heartbeat in her chest. It wasn’t nerves or panic that beset her but relief and thrill. She had just hung up with her place of employment and was no longer a team member at the craft store she had been working at for five years. The engine rumbled to life, and she looked at her phone for the first destination. The furthest place she could drive without leaving the country. Maine. She’d never been to Maine.
