Life is a destructive force sometimes. The same concept that brings us all of our joy can also send us turbulent skies, doom and gloom in a moments notice. Caleb had one of those weeks. Life was rough, but he knew he was cresting the wave and would come out better for it. He sat down to meditate as he did every morning. The house was dead silent, this was his favorite part of his day. Everything melted away, everything except the rays of the sun on his skin. Very suddenly. Concerning rays of sun from a sun that was not supposed to be in the sky.

Riri Williams: Ironheart #1 (Marvel)

Eve L. Ewing (W) Kevin Libranda (A)

I’m extremely excited about this book. Can I tell you why? Maybe now that Bendis isn’t writing Riri, she will be written like a human that has flaws and an arc. Yeah, I said it. Bendis Mary Sue-d the shit out of Riri in Iron Man. Make her human, dammit.

Dead Man Logan #1 (of 12) (Marvel)

Ed Brisson (W) Mike Henderson (A)

Remember when Old Man Logan ended last month? Marvel doesn’t. He’s back again, but you know, only for a limited time. Then he dies(?), maybe, or he doesn’t. No fucking idea. I’m still excited though.

Aquaman/Justice League: Drowned Earth #1 (DC)

Scott Snyder (W) Francis Manapul/Howard Porter (A)

Spoiler, this isn’t at the top because it’s a number one. It’s because it’s probably my least favorite crossover of the year. I get it, the world doesn’t want to be fish people. Neither do I, but I also don’t want to read about it, it turns out. Maybe that’s a little negative. It isn’t the worst thing, I don’t hate the book, it’s just….average. Booooo.

Detective Comics #993 (DC)

James Robinson (W) Carmine Di Giandomenico (A)

This arc was fine. It was fun and a weird little about face for some characters, no pun intended. It was fun but can we please get Tomasi and Mendoza on this book. I am so fucking excited for that.

Sex Death Revolution #2 (Black Mask)

Magdalene Visaggio (W) Katarzyna Witerscheim (A)

This book was really cool. I really want it to keep up, so lets give it out praise. Everyone together yell “you are a good book, keep being a good book”. I’m not very creative, sorry.

Edgar Allan Poe’s Snifter of Terror #2 (Ahoy Comics)

Tom Peyer (W) Fred Harper (A)

So, this wasn’t as good as I wanted it to be. That’s just because I was incredibly pumped about it. To the point it became a detriment to this book. It’s an awesome book. I’m just a dick.

Justice League Odyssey #3 (DC)

Joshua Williamson (W) Phillippe Briones (A)

I loved the last issue of this. It’s really shaping up to be a fun, strange story. Once it hits it’s stride, I am curious to see which Justice League book will be my favorite Cough Justice League Dark Cough

Archie 1941 #3 (of 5) (Archie Comics)

Mark Waid (W) Peter Krause (A)

Soooo. I was planning to read this from #1 but COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT IT. I picked up the last two issues, and read them, and fuck. This book is built on my shattered feelings. I love it so much so far. It was a wonderful read.

The Silencer #11 (DC)

Dan Abnett (W) Jackson Herbert (A)

This issue is the start of a new arc and also apparently is the conclusion to the first year of the story. I imagine things will change, oooooh, people will die, ooooooh, books will get cancelled. Wait….I was kidding. Don’t cancel this book.

The Books of Magic #2 (Vertigo)

Kat Howard (W) Tom Fowler (A)

Ever want a Harry Potter comic? This isn’t fucking it, stop wanting stupid things. You are dumb for that. You know your mother never loved you, right?

Heroes in Crisis #3 (of 9) (DC)

Tom King (W) Clay Mann (A)

BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF THE FUTURE MAN! BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF THE FUTURE MAN! Can I just pitch a series where everyone in the DC universe just beats the shit out of Booster Gold?

Black Panther #6 (Marvel)

Ta-Nehisi Coates (W) Jen Bartel (A)

This issue is the end of the first arc and holy shit this book has been incredible. I wonder how long this future space opera will go on before they bring back classic variant Black Panther. I’m not rushing anything, I’m just curious.

The Terrifics #10 (DC)

Jeff Lemire (W) Viktor Bogdanovic (A)

The third best Fantastic Four book is still fantastic. Don’t let my negativity fool you.

Redneck #17 (Image)

Donny Cates (W) Lisandro Estherren (A)

I feel like the last few issues of this series have really upped the quality for the book. There was a period where I was a little tired of the direction of this book. That happens, it’s natural for books to have those kind of growing pains. This book came out on the other end better than it needed to be. Thank you comic book puberty.

Die! Die! Die! #5 (Image)

Robert Kirkman/Scott Gimple (W) Chris Burnham (A)

Can I just say, the lengths they go to make sure the title is said at least once during each issue is impressive. This book is campy and action packed and unlike anything on the shelves right now. The closest comparison I can make is to Manhattan Projects, one of my all time favorite books. Check this one out.

Wonder Woman #59 (DC)

G. Willow Wilson (W) Cary Nord (A)

I loved Wilson’s first issue on the series. It was bright and happy and smart and everything I expected from her. Nord’s art PERFECTLY captures the vibe in this title and, dammit, this is going to be a great ride.

Regression #13 (Image)

Cullen Bunn (W) Danny Luckert (A)

This book ends on issue fifteen. I am very fucking sad about that, which is not surprising. I’m a qualified sad-boy at this point. Anyway, I am still excited about the ending because this book keeps ramping up and at this rate the ending will be the bombastic mess that it should be.

Fantastic Four #4 (Marvel)

Dan Slott (W) Stefano Caselli (A)

Fantastic Four issue four. Does something nuts happen with this issue or am I expecting too much from this coincidental issue number. If I were in charge things would be just as gimmicky as you would expect.

Daredevil #612 (Marvel)

Charles Soule (W) Phil Noto (A)

The last issue of this run of Daredevil and the last issue of Charles Soule on Daredevil for the foreseeable future. It has been almost exactly three years since his first issue and I have loved this run since that first issue. I am excited for this issue and the upcoming series with Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto.

The Amazing Spider-Man #10 (Marvel)

Nick Spencer (W) Humberto Ramos (A)

I really love this new run of Spider-Man. I know he kinda became a controversial creator for some dumb reasons, Nick Spencer is quickly becoming one of my favorite writers.

Marvel 2-In-One #12 (Marvel)

Chip Zdarsky (W) Ramón Pérez (A)

I am incredibly upset that this book is ending. I heard something about this book coming back in some shape or form in the near future, but so far, nothing has been solicited to my knowledge. This was a brilliant story that really highlights why I love these characters and am so fucking happy to have them all back.

The peace was ripped from Caleb. His curious mind overruling the tranquility he was soaking in. Rays of sun streaked through blinds that he did not buy. Strange tapestries and electronics hung on the wall, sending artificial twinkling colors careening into each other on the wall. Caleb’s heart nearly beat into his throat. He was no longer at him. He wasn’t sure where he was.
