Jared kept having this dream. He would be running on a track, with no one around him. He would start to shiver as a cold wind struck him to his bones. Something inside of him told him not to stop running, like something was chasing him. If he ever looked behind him, he would only see the world blurred into oblivion, shrinking into one black dot. As he ran further, he became aware of a few people at the end of the track. Some faces he couldn’t recognize. There was always tape at the finish line, gold, glittering in the sun. As he approached the thin line of the tape would expand, getting wider and wider. Eventually he ran into a wall of liquid gold that coated him and burned for just a moment. The gold would harden, he would slow, and then he would fall. He always woke up at the fall.

Border Town #1 (Vertigo)

Eric M. Esquivel (W) Ramon Villalobos (A)

I gotta say, a majority of the reason I’m gonna pick up this book is the artist. I’ve been following him for a while now and he does some fucking amazing stuff. I’m excited to see him on his own ongoing series.

Cover #1 (DC)

Brian Michael Bendis (W) David Mack (A)

Wow a comic book artist is secretly a super secret secret spy? Maybe a little fantasy porn for ole Bendis here. Either way, I can’t turn down David Mack when I see it. Damn artists.

The Dreaming #1 (Vertigo)

Simon Spurrier (W) Bilquis Evely (A)

The Sandman Universe preview made a believer. I wasn’t going to pick up any of the titles honestly, but that preview really made me reconsider all of them. So now I’m getting all of them.

Avengers #7 (Marvel)

Jason Aaron (W) Sarah Pichelli (A)

This series is like the hair metal of Avengers comics.

Astonishing X-Men #15 (Marvel)

Matthew Rosenberg (W) Greg Land (A)

I really love the new direction of this comic. It’s fucking phenomenal. Rosenberg has a great grasp on these characters and I can already tell that this book is going to be a stand out.

Death of the Inhumans #3 (Marvel)

Donny Cates (W) Ariel Olivetti (A)

Marvel hates the Inhumans now. It’s been years of building them up, now it’s time to bring them back into relative obscurity. Not really, but they are killing all of your favorite characters. So that’s kinda true.

Justice League #7 (DC)

Scott Snyder (W) Jim Cheung (A)

The last issue of this book was so fucking good. I’ve been on the fence a little about this series, but I think it just cemented itself as one of my favorite ongoings.

Old Man Logan Annual #1 (Marvel)

Ed Brisson/Ryan Cady (W) Simone Di Meo/Hayden Sherman (A)

I really love this book. I feel like even almost fifty issues in it just keeps getting better. We get a fun flashback in this one, or is it a flash forward? Time travel jokes. I’m so original.

Leviathan #2 (Image)

John Layman (W) Nick Pitarra (A)

That first issue was a lot of insanity. I’m pretty sure I loved it. Hopefully it can ride that wave in my head and convince me that it’s worth staying around to read some more. Haha.

Captain America #3 (Marvel)

Ta-Nehisi Coates (W) Leinel Francis Yu (A)

I am so fucking excited about this run. So far it is exactly the kind of story telling that I want from a Captain America book. It’s a solid reflection of what the character is and what he stands for.

Immortal Hulk #5 (Marvel)

Al Ewing (W) Joe Bennett (A)

Do I really need to gush about this book any more? Are you really missing out on one of the best Hulk books that has ever been written? Fucks sake.

Batman #54 (DC)

Tom King (W) Matt Wagner (A)

Aw who doesn’t like a little trip down memory lane….okay, well besides Batman…..and Nightwing. Wait, this may be more painful than I was expecting.

Paper Girls #24 (Image)

Brian K. Vaughan (W) Cliff Chiang (A)

People get sick. That sucks. Sometimes it can be helped but sometimes the process sucks. Sometimes life sucks. Death sucks more.

Black Science #38 (Image)

Rick Remender (W) Matteo Scalera (A)

The last issue of the second to last arc of this, what may be my favorite ongoing book, before it ends. I am crazy excited to see it end. It’s bitter sweet. I think that’s how it’s supposed to be.

The dream would always be in the back of his mind as he made major moves towards the goals in his life. Every time, he would look backwards for the black dot on the horizon. Fearing that the unknown oblivion was there, that all his accomplishments were nothing but moments in his dreams. What scared him most, as he became more successful, more ambitious, was the golden wall. The inescapable fate. The thing that would stop him dead.
