Towelite toy enthusiasts, I welcome you to a special NYCC edition of the Towelite Toy Chest. Last Wednesday I had the pleasure of attending Hasbro’s “Twas the Night Before” NYCC event and had a great time geeking out and taking pictures of the new Star Wars toys!
Star Wars is back in full “Force” this year and we are about a month deep into the “Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens”. Force Friday was just over a month ago and already stores’ supplies are looking 100% better. Casey and I had the chance to geek out about our experiences while hunting down all the new collectibles. You can check out our podcast episode on The Pursuit of Plastic here. No matter what your experience or opinion on the initial supply, Hasbro knows the situation and is making the effort to be on top of the production of this massive new line of collectibles. From children to adults, there’s something for everyone. My main focus of collecting is mostly action figures and vehicles so let’s get started with what I saw at the show. The biggest surprise of the evening was seeing the “Old Man” Han Solo 6″ Black Series figure for the first time. While the other figures I have seen on the internet, also some stores have gotten cases of them, for the most part these have not fully hit the market as of yet. Check out the official pics from Waves 3 and 4 from Hasbro.
Growing up, a major part of my Star Wars collection included the classic Micro Machines. I loved every aspect of the line, my favorite being the transforming playsets. Well Micro Machines are back and they aren’t just covering the new movie! Look for sets based on Rebels and the two trilogies! Blind bags are a huge gimmick these days and these tiny vehicles make for the perfect stuffer. I personally don’t like it because I’m a completist and it seems way too difficult for me too collect all of them.
Finally on display were the new Titanium Series Vehicles. We’ve gotten our load of Episode VII ones so now it’s time to tackle the others! Look for assortments based on vehicles from the cartoons and movies!
At NYCC the highlight of the panel for me was knowing that a classic A New Hope 6″ Black Series Princess Leia is on the way! Once farmboy Luke is released we pretty much have our original team, save goldenrod. Seeing that they will probably be making a C-3PO for TFA, we will most likely get a classic one as well after they make the mold. Good old money saving practices! Also shown were the prototypes for the Fan Choice figures of Revan and Sabine. Looking pretty good so far!
Check out my personal gallery below from the event below! I had fun from Cosplay to shooting NERF darts from a Wookie Crossbow! Also take a look at the new Millennium Falcon 3.75″ Scale vehicle, which is just hitting stores now!
I would just like to thank Hasbro and Hunter PR for inviting DFAT to the event. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for us when the movie is actually released. I really feel that they are holding back so much from us and I really appreciate that. I want to go into this film with as little knowledge of the events as possible. It has been stated that most of the collectibles that we’ve seen so far is only from the beginning of the film and I find that to be VERY exciting! May the Force be with you!
