If you’ve never seen Trainspotting, then you’re doing yourself a huge disservice. Actually, quit reading this article right now and go watch it! It’s America’s first real introduction to Danny Boyle, as well as an amazing cast that included: Ewan McGregor, Johnny Lee Miller, Kevin McKidd, and Robert Carlyle. The plot centered around a bunch of drug addicts that semi-find redemption.
Boyle is interested in reuniting the cast for their 20 year reunion, to be involved in a sequel entitled ‘Porno.’
“Well, the ideal time would be Porno in 2016. Because it was 1996 when Trainspotting came out. Twenty years, it’s like wow, where did that go.”
The writer of the Trainspotting novel, Irvin Welsh, had written the sequel ‘Porno‘ and the movie would be loosely based on that. Currently, the Trainspotting movie writer, John Hodge, is working on a script.
In a recent interview with Boyle he went on to say, “This has been a long time coming. There’s always been this long term plan for Trainspotting 2, if John [Hodge] can produce a decent enough script, I don’t think there will be any barriers to Ewan [McGregor] or any of the cast coming back. I think they’ll wanna know that the parts are good so they don’t feel like they are letting anyone down. The reason for doing it again is that people cherish the original, people remember it or have caught up with it if they never saw because they were younger. So you want to make sure you don’t disappoint people. That will be the only criteria I think.”
The cast seems to be all over television right now, and McGregor is obviously a huge movie star; but everyone is still interested in returning to the project. 2016 is a ways off, but we’ll keep you posted as more news comes in on Trainspotting 2 here at DFAT!
