True Detective was one of my favorite series in recent years. Amazing story, wonderfully acted by Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, and some of the best directing I’ve seen in an television show, well ever. The second season had a lot of rumors who was going to come in and fill the giant shoes of the actors that McConaughey and Harrelson left behind. Finally, we have news that Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn will be taking over as the leads of the next season.

The other bit of news is that Justin Lin will be directing the first two episodes. I don’t know if he’ll infuse the show with any type of Fast & Furious-style action, but he’s a solid director and I can’t wait to see where he takes the beginning of what’s sure to be a great season. With original show runner, Nick Pizzolatto, set to return. Check out the byline from HBO below.

Vaughn is to play Frank Semyon, “a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner,” while Farrell will be Ray Velcoro, “a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him.”

True Detective Season 2 will make it’s way back to HBO. The second season is going to have more of an organized crime element to it, rather than the first seasons cult-like killer. What do you think of the casting choices, sound off in the comments.
