Tuesday Blus-day 930x300 slider

Hey all,

So, I know the past couple weeks have been slow in the world of releases, but fortunately this week we have a few good things coming our way.

Lets start off with the highlight of the week:  Batman, The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2.  This is the second half of the animated feature based on the Dark Knight comics, and the conclusion of the story.  Don’t need to say much on this one, as our very own CynicNerd (who was lucky enough to go to the premiere); so if you want the details, check out  CynicNerd’s review!

We’re going to follow that up with another anime… Hotel Transylvania.  Starring Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg and Selena Gomez, this one actually got pretty good reviews.  So, if you’re in the mood for a lighthearted and colorful film – this might be a good choice. You can also read our review on the Art of Hotel Transylvania book by Titan Books here.

One film I wanted to see but missed (so I’m excited for its release), is Seven Psychopaths.  With actors like Colin Farrell, Woody Harrelson, and best of all Christopher Walken, this movie seems to have entertainment all over it.  I guess we’ll see.  I’m sure if I’m impressed, I’ll be writing a review on it.

On the horror side, we have Paranormal Activity 4.  I am not a big horror/scary movie fan… they don’t scare me for the most part and I find them tacky.  But there are a handful that I thought were good.  Blair Witch was one of them, as was the first Paranormal Activity.  Unfortunately, the rest of them didn’t do that well (though I still wish I had seen them), and this one has the worst reviews yet.  I think the idea has played out.  Its time to let it rest.

On the collection side we have a great release… Die Hard: 25th Anniversary Collection.  These classics with Bruce Willis are always entertaining (especially the first ones), and this collection has the all; Die Hard, Harder, With a Vengeance, Live Free or…  The collection also includes Decoding Die Hard (which contains special features that are currently unknown).  Yippee ki-ay, …

Die Hard Collection

Another collection is the super expensive (running at almost $370), Best of Warner Bros – 50 Film Collection.  This is a great collection, though if you already love many of these movies, then you already own many of these movies.  But, f you’re starting a movie collection, and you lack most of the good ones from this list… well, this might be a good pick.  Too many to list, some of the movies included are:  Gone with The Wind, Wizard of Oz, Maltese Falcon, Citizen Kane, Casablanca, Ben-Hur, North By Northwest, 2001: A Space Odyssey Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, Clockwork Orange, One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, Superman, Shining, Full Metal Jacket, Lethal Weapon, Natural Born Killers, Matrix, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,  Lord of the Rings (all 3), The Departed, The Dark Knight, The Hangover, Sherlock Holmes and Inception, are some of the few great ones.

Finally, for television, we get Season 3 of the Masterpiece Classics: Downton Abbey.  My girl has got me into this show, and I have to admit, it’s pretty good… especially for a BBC series.  Funny thing is that, being its British, Season 3 played last year, which is why it’s releasing now… But Season 3 just started on TV.  So, we decided to avoid this one for now, and enjoy the anticipation of each weekly episode, instead of finishing it in one weekend – especially due to the lack of any other shows currently on my watch list (at least not until Walking Dead and Game of Thrones comes back on).

That’s it for the week.  Hope the releases this time around had something you were interested in.  Till next week…
