TV Onslaught

Mid-Season break is practically over Towelites and our favorite shows are returning! But what lies ahead for us on the syndication highway? Let’s get to the latest news onslaught!

The on-again, off-again TV adaptation the Brian Michael Bendis comic book Powers seems to be gaining some steam according to an IGN‘s interview with FX President John Landgraf:

powers comic book cover“No, still alive…After we made the pilot, we actually developed three more [episode] scripts. So then we had a pilot plus three scripts, and we decided between the pilot and the scripts that it wasn’t quite the series that we needed it to be. When I say we, by the way, Brian Bendis is involved in every phase of this conversation and discussion.  But one of the scripts was written by this guy named Charlie Huston, and he was a novelist. Both I and Brian and others thought, ‘Wow, there is actually something in the tone of this.'”

“Charlie went up to Seattle, and they sat down and they talked, and read through all the books, and they came back with a new vision, basically. Essentially, a new pilot to begin with, which is a new, different story than the pilot that we shot. So that pilot is officially gone and dead, and the actors are all gone, but we’re developing a whole new pilot from scratch.”

“I feel like we have to bring something to the table that doesn’t exist. Television adaptations of graphic novels, for the most part, have been the pretty good food you’ll take when really good food isn’t available, you know what I mean? For me, I’m not going to take second fiddle to Marvel or anybody….And if we can get Powers to that level, I’ll make another pilot, and I’ll put it on the air. But I’m not going to put anything less than an absolutely great version of Powers on the air. That’s like remaking a great film into a good film, and I don’t want to do that.”

A rumored story that got me rather excited this week! Apparently according to Polygon the following has taken place:

falloutEarlier this month Bethesda Softworks filed a trademark for a post-apocalyptic television program under the title Fallout, according to United Stated Patent and Trademark Office documentation.

The trademark, filed on Jan. 8, identifies the document as a patent for “entertainment services in the nature of an on-going television program set in a post-nuclear apocalyptic world.”

Last week voice actor Erik Todd Dellums, who voices Fallout 3‘s Galaxy News Radio host DJ Three Dog, tweeted a series of cryptic hints declaring fans of the series haven’t seen the last of his character.

“To all my Fallout 3 and ThreeDog fans: There may be more of the Dog coming! Fingers crossed!” he tweeted, along with the information that he had been “given permission to release that tease.”

Popular fan speculation at the time focused on a possible Fallout movie or another entry into the video game series with Fallout 4.

Polygon has reached out to Bethesda for comment and will update this story with more details as we receive them.

How awesome would this be!

Ali-LarterThe TNT adventure show Legends, starring Sean Bean, has added another famous, and beautiful, face to its cast. Ali Larter (Heroes) will be playing the female lead in the show, by the name of Crystal who is an operative with D.C.O. who has a history with Martin and initially objects to his return to the task force.

Legends, developed by Howard Gordon (Homeland), Jeffrey Nachmanoff and Mark Bomback from the novel by Robert Littell, centers on Martin Odum (Sean Bean), a deep-cover CIA operative who has an uncanny ability to transform himself into a different person for each job.

Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek: TNG mastermind, Ronald D Moore is developing a new show for SYFY called Helix. Here’s a brief description of the premise:

About a team of scientists investigating a possible disease outbreak at an Arctic research facility who find themselves trying to protect the world from annihilation.

The Thing anyone? Nonetheless I still trust Moore to deliver something golden.
