We’ve been saying that 2018 was going to be the year for Valiant Comics and it looks like we’re getting even closer to that reality. With Ninjak vs The Valiant Universe web-series coming out later in the year, a steady stream of kick-ass comics, and talks for the beginnings of a cinematic universe; the indie publisher is on a precipice of blowing up. Today we get news that the primer has been set and all that we need is a match.

DMG Entertainment, the people behind Looper and Chappaquiddick, have acquired the entirety of Valiant Entertainment. CEO Dan Mintz has his focus on growing the property past the comics and into other IP like films and television. Take a look at his quotes thanks to THR.

“This is about taking it to the next level,” says Mintz, a former filmmaker-turned-entrepreneur. “I am not looking on expanding from a publishing standpoint but from a motion picture standpoint.”

I love that Mintz wants to keep going with what’s working on the comic book side of things. Valiant already has an extensive list of characters that include: X-O Manowar, Shadowman, The Eternal Warrior, Ninjak, and Bloodshot; the latter is already in the beginning of phases to coming to life for Sony. MIntz also wants to make sure that the writers of these fantastic comics stay close to the property when the characters jump from the pages to the big screen. That’s something that DC has been struggling with for a long time and Marvel has Kevin Feige to oversee. It already sounds like a point in the right direction.

“You can expect more strong storytelling with a defined road to other platforms,” he says. “I’m also looking forward to bringing the writers close to the filmmaking process, which is something that is also important, and not keeping them siloed into the comic book area.”

One sad piece of information with this news is that current CEO Dinesh Shamdasani is transitioning out of the company. Since taking over in 2005, he’s been instrumental in the publishers relaunch in 2012 and it’s continuing successs. No news as to where Dinesh will be going next, but he will be missed. As more news comes in with this DMG and Valiant team-up, we’ll be sure to keep you posted here at DFAT!
