Hey Towelites, with this week being all about ‘Merrica, it got a little crazy with all the news that came out. When all that randomness happens, there’s only one place to go to catch up on it all, and that’s here at DFAT! Below, we have some of the biggest stories of the week, so let’s not waste any time getting to them!
First up, the BBC and creator Steven Moffat, let us in on some news about the return of Sherlock. The fourth season is coming and bringing along a Christmas episode, a la, Doctor Who. The problem is that we’re going to have to wait until the end of 2015 for the Christmas episode, and most likely sometime in 2016 for the fourth season.
Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller are hard at work, wrapping up things on Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. The film is out on August 22nd, and its safe to say that it is one of the most anticipated movies of the year. Below, we have some new images of Rosario Dawson and Jamie Chung as Gail and Miho. We also have some new footage as Jessica Alba returns as Nancy.
Here’s Nancy going a bit crazy.
I was a big fan of the first Horrible Bosses film. It had a good amount of gross humor in it, and the idea was fresh and original. Plus, the bosses all did a fantastic job. This go around the boys, Charlie Day, Jason Bateman, and Jason Sudeikis, are back with a new set of bosses to potentially murder and the trailer for it looks hilarious.
It’s been a good long while since we’ve seen anything from Sailor Moon, but TODAY, she’ll be making her return. Here’s the first bit of footage from the new series called Sailor Moon Crystal. You can also watch the entire first episode HERE.
As a big fan of Greek Mythology, the story of The Odyssey is one of my favorites. It seems that Warner Bros. is going to be jumping on the bandwagon of Homer’s epic, by naming Fedor Bondarchuk (Stalingrad) as the director of the upcoming adaptation.
Finally, we get a bit of news from Guillermo Del Toro talking about Pacific Rim 2. He recently spoke with The Wall Street Journal and is a bit away from the start of setting up the Kaiju vs Jaeger fest, but is excited that we’ll be seeing a sequel. Check out what he had to say below.
We are three years away, so to spoil anything would be fantastically silly of me. What I can tell you: [screenwriter Zak Penn] and I really went in, we started with [screenwriter Travis Beacham] about a year and a half ago, kicking ideas back and forth. And, admittedly, I said to Zak, let’s keep kicking ideas till we find one that really, really turns the first movie on its ear, so to speak. (…) It was hard to create a world that did not come from a comic book, that had its own mythology, so we had to sacrifice many aspects to be able to cram everything in the first movie. Namely, for example “the Drift”, which was an interesting concept. [Then there was] this portal that ripped a hole into the fabric of our universe, what were the tools they were using? And we came up with a really, really interesting idea. I don’t want to spoil it, but I think at the end of the second movie, people will find out that the two movies stand on their own. They’re very different from each other, although hopefully bringing the same joyful giant spectacle. But the tenor of the two movies will be quite different.
He also talks about when he expects production to begin.
I start designing in six weeks. It takes me nine months to design a movie like that. People see the movie, and they have to see that we designed everything in the movie, from ID cards or patches, pamphlets, posters, signs, sets. I start with a core team for about six months designing the jaegers and the kaiju, you know, so we know how many kaiju, how many jaegers. We are creating some new jaegers and a lot of new kaiju. We start [designing the production] in August.
