I’ll be the first to say that the Venom film starring Tom Hardy looked like garbage. The CGI, the acting, just the whole vibe seemed like it would be better suited in the 90s. Not only that, I really don’t trust what Sony has planned with it’s ‘Sony Universe of Marvel Characters’ or the SUMC. That all being said, the movie wasn’t all that bad and it went on to be #1 at the Box Office this weekend with $80million. This shattered the previous record holder in October, Gravity, which had earned $55.7 million back in 2013.
The movie did fantastic here domestically but it’s also earned $125.2 million internationally, which means it easily just topped it’s estimated $100 million budget in one weekend. Did somebody say sequel!? The other big winner of the weekend was the remake of A Star is Born starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. While the film didn’t earn as much as Venom, it did premiere with $41 million on a $30 Million (why it cost that much, Odin only knows) budget. You can see the rest of the Top Ten below.
