Frozen 2 was expected to make a lot of money, but this is a little bit insane. The sequel to the 2013 smash hit was able to take #1 with its earning of $127 million over the weekend. This $127 million domestic opening weekend total means Frozen 2 officially has the biggest opening ever for a Walt Disney Animation Studios picture. It’s also the biggest animation opening for a movie not released in the Summer. ALSO, it was #1 in all overseas territories and took in an additional $223 million in the rest of the Globe. The rest of the Top Ten that didn’t even scratch a dent in the Frozen armor are below.

1. Frozen II $127,000,000

2. Ford v. Ferrari $16,000,000

3. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood $13,500,000

4. 21 Bridges $9,300,000

5. Midway $4,700,000

6. Playing With Fire $4,615,000

7. The Good Liar $3,375,000

8. Charlie’s Angels $3,175,000

9. Last Christmas $3,040,000

10. Joker $2,820,000

As for the newcomers entering the race next weekend, we have Knives Out, Queen & Slim, The Two Popes, and Waves. While they will shake things up a bit, I’d say that only Knives Out has a chance for breaking into the Top 5. Find out if I’m right in the next edition of Weekend Roundup!
