Another Marvel Studios film, another win at the Box Office. This weekend we saw the premiere of Doctor Strange. The film was able to debut at #1 here in the US and take in $85million dollars. This puts the film as one of the biggest standalone MCU films since the original Iron Man; beating out the premieres of Captain America: First Avenger, Thor, and Ant-Man. Not only that, the movie was fantastically amazing and deserved to make that much money.

The other premieres of Trolls and Hacksaw Ridge debuted in 2nd and 3rd place, earning $45.6mil and $14.8mil respectivally. Animated films have been on a roll this entire year, so it was no doubt that Trolls was going to win big. Hacksaw Ridge on the other hand, is at a near perfect rating on Rotten Tomatoes; so even if it doesn’t win financially, it’ll be a bit contender during the Oscars I’m sure. The rest of the Top Ten are below.

1. Doctor Strange $85 million

2. Trolls $45.6 million

3. Hacksaw Ridge $14.8 million

4. Tyler Perry’s Boo! A Madea Halloween $7.8 million

5. Inferno $6.3 million

6. The Accountant $6 million

7. Jack Reacher: Never Go Back $5.6 million

8. Ouija: Origin of Evil $4 million

9. The Girl on the Train $2.8 million

10. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children $2.1 million

Next weekend, we see the premiere of Arrival. This is another film trending very high amongst critics; but that doesn’t mean it will be able to take out Doctor Strange. In fact, I’m willing to bet that Strange only has a little dip in revenue as more word of mouth gets out about the film. Will I be right? Find out in the next edition of Weekend Roundup!
