We all thought that Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, was going to pull off the top spot at the Box Office this weekend, but it looks like The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is keeping it’s #1 position. The Hobbit 2 brought in $31mil, bringing it’s Domestic total to $127.5mil. Anchorman 2 wasn’t far off, as it still was able to debut with a $26mil. The film actually opened up on the 18th, so altogether it’s made over $40mil. Also, American Hustle went wide this weekend and did really good for David O. Russell with a strong $19mil opening.

Title Weekend Total
1.  The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug $31 $127.5
2.  Anchorman 2 $26 $40
3. Frozen  $19.1 $16
4. American Hustle $19.1 $191
5. Saving Mr. Banks $9.3 $20.2
6. Catching Fire $8.7 $9.9
7. Madeas Christmas $8.5 $371
8. Walking With Dinosaurs $7.3 $7.3
9. Dhoom 3 $3.3 $3.3
10. Thor: The Dark World $1.3 $200

Next week, The Hobbit 2 has some pretty stiff competition. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, The Wolf of Wall Street and 47 Ronin are all premiering on Christmas Day. Ironically enough, no real Christmas movies are opening. My money is on the Dynamic Duo of Martin Scorcese and Leonardo DiCaprio taking the top spot. They haven’t made a movie that I haven’t liked, though Shutter Island was only OK.
