Well it looks like everything is NOT quite so Awesome. Falling behind on it’s $50 million estimate, The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part opened to a mediocre $34 million. The film was met with good reviews but that didn’t seem to bring people into the theatre over the chilly weekend. The first film went on to earn $257 million at the Box Office and I seriously doubt the new one will come anywhere close to that number.
The other premieres of the weekend also had some ups and downs. While What Men Want debuted in 2nd place with $19 million on a $20 million budget, the Liam Neeson thriller, Cold Pursuit, took 3rd with $10 million. Finally, the creepy kid movie, The Prodigy, cracked the Top Ten with $6 million. The rest of the movies in that list are below.
1.The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part $34,400,000
2.What Men Want $19,000,000
3.Cold Pursuit $10,800,000
4.The Upside$7,220,000
5.Glass $6,422,000
6.The Prodigy $6,004,403
7.Green Book $3,567,000
8.Aquaman $3,300,000
9.Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse $3,040,000
10.Miss Bala $2,725,000
Next weekend, we finally get the premiere of Alita: Battle Angel and according to the critics, the movie is really good. I have no doubt about it with Robert Rodriguez and James Cameron behind the project. Will it be able to help out the Box Office fatigue we’ve been experiencing? Find out in the next Weekend Roundup!
