Its not a surprise that the Box Office was going to take a hit this weekend with the coronavirus, but damn, its been twenty years since we’ve seen such a low gross at the cinema. The entire Box Office cume was just over $55 million with audiences (what limited there were) heading to the family-friendly Onward and making it #1 again. The movie took in another $10 million and brought its Worldwide Total to a little over $100 million. Pretty rubbish numbers for a Pixar movie.
Three newcomers opened this weekend and were able to scratch the Top Ten. Faith-based film, I Still Believe, landed in the 2nd position with $9.5 million. While Bloodshot and The Hunt took on 3rd and 5th positions with $9.3 milling and $5.3 million, respectively. You can see the rest of the Top Ten below. I have a prediction right now, the biggest movie of 2020 may be going to Bad Boys for Life.
- 1. Onward $10,532,000
- 2. I Still Believe $9,500,000
- 3. Bloodshot $9,300,000
- 4. The Invisible Man $6,000,000
- 5. The Hunt $5,320,000
- 6. Sonic the Hedgehog $2,575,000
- 7. The Way Back $2,415,000
- 8. The Call of the Wild $2,241,000
- 9. Emma $1,370,000
- 10 Bad Boys for Life $1,100,000
Next weekend, expect the Box Office to look the same or maybe even worse as more social distancing bans are being enacting around the globe. Every major movie, including The Quiet Place II which was supposed to open this weekend, has been pushed back. What’s the landscape going to look like next week? Find out on the next edition of Weekend Roundup…if there is one. In the meantime, please stay safe out there.
