For the 5th weekend in a row, Black Panther is #1 at the Box Office. This is a feat that’s only been done twice before by Avatar and The Six Sense in the last 19 years. The Marvel Studios film took in another $27 million and brought its Domestic Total to over $600 million. In addition to that, the movie has exceeded $1.1 Billion Worldwide.

The other new releases of Tomb Raider, I Can Only Imagine, and Love, Simon all debuted behind the Marvel film in 2nd, 3rd, and 5th spots respectively. While all of the movies met with lukewarm reception, Tomb Raider exceeded all odds and took in over $100 million overseas and brought it’s total cume to $126 million. Pretty impressive when stacked up against the Angelina Jolie films of video game adaptations past. The rest of the Top 5 can be seen below.

Next weekend, we have the release of Pacific Rim 2. As the first film was my favorite movie of 2013, I’m pretty excited for the sequel; despite Guillermo Del Toro passing on as the director to Steven S. DeKnight (Spartacus, Netflix’s Daredevil). The real question is: will it be good enough to dethrone The King? Find out on the next edition of Weekend Roundup.
