And they try to say that horror is dead. Guess what people, Jordan Peele says ‘eff off’ to all that. His latest film, Us, proves that he not only isn’t going to suffer from the Sophomore Slump with his film; it’ll also be the highest opening for an original horror film of all-time, and the 3rd highest opening for a horror film, period. The movie cost $20 million and brought in $70 million domestically. Let’s just hope the director keeps up the great work.

The rest of the Top Ten are below.

  1. Us ($70,250,000)

  2. Captain Marvel ($35,021,000)

  3. Wonder Park ($9,000,000)

  5. How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World ($6,533,000)

  6. Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral ($4,500,000)

  7. Gloria Bell ($1,802,500)

Next weekend, we have the live-action version of Dumbo. I am not a huge fan of the original property and this film looks just OK in my opinion. I’m excited to see Tim Burton return to the ‘Big Top’ but it’ll be interesting to see if it’s able to take on US. Find out what happens on the next edition of Weekend Roundup.
