Its a very rare thing in Hollywood, where a video game, gets turned into a film, and it actually turns out to be good. Super Mario Bros, Double Dragon, Street Fighter…just to name a few of the films that are so reprehensible, they turn out to be just silly and laughable. Mortal Kombat is probably the only video game-to-movie adaptation that I actually enjoyed and it’s garnered sequels and a web series as a result.

NEED FOR SPEED

EA was trying to turn Need for Speed into a potential franchise, but after only bringing in $17.8 mil this weekend, and coming in at 3rd in the Box Office, it looks like they will have to set their sights elsewhere. The animated time-traveller’s, Mr. Peabody & Sherman, ended up pulling #1 this weekend. Taking over the top spot from last weeks winner, 300: Rise of an Empire, with a revenue of $21.2mil.

Below, there is a rest of the Top Ten. Which includes everyones favorite blonde super sleuth, Veronica Mars, coming in at #10 with $2mil. Pretty impressive, figuring the film was available on VOD at the same time.

Next week, we see the releases of Divergent and Muppets Most Wanted. Given the Box Office climate is more family friendly at the moment, my money is on the Jim Henson creation. Divergent doesn’t have the same appeal as the female-led action film, The Hunger Games in my opinion, and it’s star, Shailene Woodley, is by no means a Jennifer Lawrence.

We will just have to wait to find out what happens on the next edition of Weekend Roundup. Stay Tuned to DFAT and find out what happens at the Box Office!
