I’m going to be completely honest with you and tell you that I forgot that Home was even released this past weekend. Maybe I was just too worried about how well Kevin Hart was going to do at the Box Office, maybe all the previews looked horrid. Whatever the case, the movie destroyed the Top Ten with a $54 million opening weekend.
Kevin Hart and Will Ferrell didn’t do too bad themselves with 2nd place and a $34.6million opening. Hart continues to keep on his streak of making money and I’m happy that the comedian is kicking butt at the Box Office. Insurgent came in at #3 and brought in another $22.1million, which ensures we’ll see a third and possibly fourth film. The rest of the Top Ten are below.
1. Home $54 million
2. Get Hard $34.6 million
3. The Divergent Series: Insurgent $22.1 million
4. Cinderella $17.5 million
5. It Follows $4 million
6. Kingsman: The Secret Service $3.1 million
7. Run All Night $2.2 million
8. The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel $2.2 million
9. Do You Believe? $2.2 million
10. The Gunman $2 million
There’s no doubt in my mind that Furious 7 will be #1 next weekend, the question really is: How much will it make? With the film premiering in IMAX as well as traditional theaters, it has the potential to bring in $70million. Given that the film reviewed well at SXSW, has the death of Paul Walker surrounding it, and has been better over time; I think this will be one of the biggest films of the year.
