I’ll be perfectly honest and let you know I had no idea there was another ‘Conjuring Universe’ movie coming out this weekend. I haven’t even seen one trailer for The Curse of La Llorona but I guess I was in the minority as the movie was able to take #1 at the Box Office. The film earning $26 million on a $9 million budget, so it’s wins all-around on the James Wan-produced film. This helped Llorona topple last week’s winner Shazam! and the film was knocked to 2nd place with $17 million.
The other newcomer to the Top Ten this weekend was Breakthrough, a faith-based film which took 3rd with $11 million. Overall the landscape was pretty dismal as audiences were more concerned with hanging with their families or saving up for Avengers Endgame. The last time we had a Box Office this low was when Ashton Kutcher did a ‘Guess Whose Coming to Dinner?’ reboot. Yes, that movie. You can see the rest of the Top Ten below.
1. The Curse of La Llorona $26,505,000
2. Shazam! $17,340,000
3. Breakthrough $11,100,000
4. Captain Marvel $9,100,000
5. Little $8,451,000
6. Dumbo $6,800,000
7. Pet Sematary $4,850,000
8. Missing Link $4,369,756
9. Us $4,264,000
10. Hellboy $3,880,000
This weekend is the release of Avengers Endgame and little else matters. With another Snap, Thanos and Friends will decimate the Box Office as we know it and nothing will remain the same. Just how much money will it make? Given how little audiences went to the theatre this past weekend, I’d say the sky’s the limit. Find out on the next edition of Weekend Roundup.
