Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 had some big shoes to fill as a follow up to the 2014 smash hit from Marvel. The first film was pretty much like watching Star Wars done in the style of the MCU. The follow up focuses a lot more on laughs and the Guardians family, and it looks like audiences really keyed in to that tonal shift.

The movie brought in $145 million in it’s debut, which was more than all the rest of the Top Ten films combined three times over. With it’s international release last week, #GOTG2 is sitting at $428 million worldwide. I’d say Marvel has yet another giant hit on their hands, likely to pass the $1 Billion mark. Take a look at the rest of the Top Ten below.

1. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 $145 million

2. The Fate of the Furious $8.5 million

3. The Boss Baby $6.2 million

4. How to Be a Latin Lover $5.3 million

5. Beauty and the Beast $4.9 million

6. The Circle $4 million

7. Baahubali: The Conclusion $3.2 million

8. Gifted $2.1 million

9. Going in Style $1.9 million

10. Smurfs: The Lost Village $1.8 million

Next week, we have the release of King Arthur: Legend of the Sword. Guy Richie is directing this sword and fantasy film and I honestly think it looks pretty amazing. Will audiences agree with me and push Guardians to the #2 spot? Check in on the next edition of Weekend Roundup to find out.
