Why hello there Towelites and welcome to a new edition of Weekend Roundup where the Men in Black have made their triumphant return to the Box Office. The film starring Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson that’s NOT a Thor sequel managed to come in the #1 spot by earning $28 million. Not sure if that’s exactly good or not but since it napped over $74 million overseas, I suppose it’ll make it’s money back. Go Sony Studios! The other premiere of this weekend, Shaft, was not really able to do much as it only earned $8 million and took the 6th spot. He’s one bad…no, no he’s not and no one cares anymore. The rest of the Top Ten is below.
Men in Black International $28,500,000
The Secret Life of Pets 2 $23,800,000
Aladdin (2019) $16,712,000
Dark Phoenix $9,005,000
Rocketman $8,800,000
Shaft (2019) $8,315,000
Godzilla: King of the Monsters $8,105,000
John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum $6,100,000
Late Night $5,136,73410 Ma $3,610,000
Next weekend, will be the battle of the toys with both Toy Story 4 and the Child’s Play reboot facing off against each other. The latter has had a pretty brilliant marketing campaign by leaning in to it’s Chucky taking out the Toy Story characters one-by-one. It won’t be enough to put a dent into what will likely be a financial and emotional juggernaut, but I think it’ll be enough to make it the #2 movie next week. Find out if I’m right on the next edition of Weekend Roundup!
