If you read my review of Transformers: Age of Extinction you’ll know why it was #1 at the Box Office this weekend. It was a vast improvement on the overall series, and my second favorite overall. I wasn’t the only one who was impressed by a darker Optimus Prime and the inclusion of Dinobots, as the movie brought in $100 million! This marks AOE the biggest opening of all of 2014, and the second biggest Transformers opening, putting it right behind Revenge of the Fallen’s $108 million.
The finale of the movie took place in China, and overseas this latest movie had a huge opening as well. China alone brought in $60 million, while altogether between domestic and foreign Box Offices, AOE has already grossed over $201 million! The rest of the competition didn’t come close, as you can tell by the chart below.

5. Maleficent $8.2 million
6. Jersey Boys $7.6 million
7. Edge of Tomorrow $5.2 million

Next week, the Robots in Disguise have little competition as the only new movie to give it a fight is Melissa McCarthy‘s, Tammy. She did very well with The Heat last year, which opened to $40 million; but that’s not going to be enough to take down the Michael Bay juggernaut.
