You get these news outlets reporting “superhero fatigue” and “who wants to see ANOTHER Spider-Man movie?!” and we here at DFAT just sit back and laugh. The Tom Holland-led film took #1 at the Box Office this past weekend with a walloping $185 million since it’s July 2nd release date. Yes, Spider-Man films are always lucky enough to land that July 4th money, but even still, it’s just a great movie and Far From Home proved that audiences are still excited to see the Web Slinger in action.
The rest of the Top Ten stayed pretty similar to last week with the exception of the other premiere of the week with Midsommar. The horror film was able to land in the 6th position with $6.5 million over the weekend and over $10 million since it’s premiere on July 3rd. While those aren’t huge numbers, I believe that word of mouth is going to give this movie some legs. You can see the rest of the Top Ten below.
1. Spider-Man: Far From Home $93,600,000
2. Toy Story 4 $34,300,000
3. Yesterday $10,750,000
4. Annabelle Comes Home $9,750,000
5. Aladdin (2019) $7,600,000
6. Midsommar $6,561,798
7. The Secret Life of Pets 2 $4,760,000
8. Men in Black International $3,635,000
9. Avengers: Endgame $3,100,000
10. Rocketman $2,775,000
Next weekend, we have the releases of action-comedy Stuber and the crocodile thriller, Crawl. Both films are likely to get added to the Top Ten to move things around, albeit they won’t be taking down Spider-Man anytime soon. We’ll have to wait until the following week when the upcoming Lion King reboot gets launched. Find out just how much of a splash the newbies DO make, on the next edition of Weekend Roundup!
